HOUSTON -- Studying is not the only way Houston schools are preparing for the
Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test, which is less than a week away.
Officials with the
Houston Independent School District announced more new procedures Tuesday to prevent cheating.
HISD officials said the new cheating prevention plan includes 300 test monitors and a shorter testing time. Teachers will also not be allowed to administer the tests to their own students.
This is the second year the district has implemented new procedures aimed at preventing any accusations of students and teachers cheating on the tests.
During the 2005 TAKS testing dates, monitors were assigned to classrooms to observe the testing and report any problems.
The measures were initiated after allegations of cheating surfaced following the 2004 TAKS testing. Four school employees lost their jobs after an investigation into the accusations.
TAKS testing for students in third through 11th grades begins Tuesday.
