Galveston ISD Cuts 163 Jobs

POSTED: Thursday, March 5, 2009
UPDATED: 7:12 am CST March 5, 2009

The Galveston Independent School District is cutting 163 jobs, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The district's board of trustees voted on the cuts on Tuesday. They were made to help deal with a budget crisis following Hurricane Ike.

Ninety-nine of the eliminated positions are teaching positions. That number does not include 27 teachers who volunteered to resign.

Sixty-four staff positions will be cut, including seven principal and assistant principal jobs.
