HOUSTON -- A Katy elementary student won a contest that included a special playdate at school with the Houston Texans, KPRC Local 2, Your Education Station, reported Thursday.
Corbin Henrich, 9, was the lucky winner of a contest hosted by the NFL called Take a Player To School.
So, during physical education class at Katy Elementary School, Texans Ephraim Salaam and Chester Pitts exercised and played with the students.
"We were ripping and running, full-on sweating," Pitts said.
Play 60 is a health and fitness campaign created to inspire children.
"Childhood obesity is affecting all of us. Help the kids realize that it doesn't take much -- go out, have fun with your friends, make up your own games for 60 minutes a day," Salaam said.
Pitts and Salaam led the children through warm-ups, drills, football tosses and even showed off a few dance moves.
After PE class, the Texans met with the entire school -- talking to students and stressing the importance of physical fitness.
Henrich said he understands the importance of being active.
"My neighbor, he plays 'Halo' a lot, a video game on Xbox, and I keep on telling him to come outside," he said.
The challenge is to step away from video games and the TV, and just exercise.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes, over the past 30 years, the number of children between 6 and 17 years old who are overweight has nearly tripled.
Parents are encouraged to help their children find fun things to do and be good role models.
"I don't want to stay inside and get all fat and stuff," Henrich said.
