Teacher, School District Win Awards For Excellence

Two local winners were chosen this weekend in HEB's seventh annual "Excellence In Education" awards program, KPRC Local 2, Your Education Station, reported.

About 500 people attended the event at The Woodlands Resort and Convention Center Sunday night.

Educators from across the state who were finalists were treated to an all-expenses paid weekend, along with their families.

The Aldine Independent School District was awarded $100,000. The district welcomed hundreds of new students after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The other local grand-prize winner was a Fort Bend Independent School District sixth-grade math teacher at Sartartia Middle School. Anna Davila won $5,000 for her school and $5,000 for herself.

A total of $380,000 was awarded in cash and grants.
