Students Recommend Gifts To Give Children

POSTED: Wednesday, December 5, 2007
UPDATED: 6:11 pm CST December 5, 2007

Students released a list Wednesday of what gifts most children would like to receive during the holidays, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Fifth-graders at Longfellow Elementary divided up into survey teams and asked students around the school what they wanted and what they most feared receiving.

"Adults have a lot on their mind during the holiday season and it can be pretty hard to get their attention at this time of year," student Tyler Harris said. "Sometimes even really big hints experience a breakdown in communication."

The students made a list of items and asked children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade which items they wanted.

The youngest wanted everything on the list -- even socks and underwear.

Girls in pre-kindergarten through third grade were very interested in dolls, but the older children were very particular about which dolls they wanted.

Boys in pre-kindergarten through first grade leaned toward Transformers and Sesame Street items, but boys in second and third grade steered clear of Sesame Street toys and stuck with the Transformers.

Fourth- and fifth-graders did not want any kind of dolls, the students said. The girls said they wanted Hannah Montana concert tickets and arts and craft sets, digital cameras and "High School Musical" on DVD. Boys were interested in Transformers toys, electronics and gift cards.

The students said that children receiving gift cards would also appreciate a ride to the store so they can redeem them.

The top 10 suggestions were as follows:

    10. Webkinz
    9. Hannah Montana concert tickets
    8. "High School Musical" DVD
    7. Specialty Monopoly games
    6. Gift Cards
    5. Arts, crafts sets
    4. "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" game
    3. Transformers
    2. Kids' MP3 player
    1. Kids' digital camera
