UH Votes To Raise Tuition

UPDATED: 6:43 pm CDT June 20, 2007

The University of Houston will soon cost more to attend, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

The UH System Regents Board approved a rate hike for fiscal year 2008.

There will be a 6.9 percent increase in tuition and fees for a typical resident undergraduate student taking 12 credit hours, which amounts to a $202 increase for a total cost of $3,144 per semester, officials said.

UH Clear Lake will have a 6.2 percent increase, which amounts to $128.

The increase for UH Downtown will be 9.9 percent, or $183.

At UH Victoria, there will be a 5.9 percent increase, which amounts to $114.

Officials said the increases were based on a sliding scale adopted by the board in April that pegged the rates to the specific amount of funding received from the Texas Legislature.

The University of Houston System is the state's only metropolitan higher education system, encompassing four universities and two multi-institution teaching centers.
