HOUSTON - Drivers will pay less at the pump this week as they return home from their Fourth of July trips.
According to AAA, the state average for a gallon of regular unleaded is now $3.16, which is four cents less than last week, and 18 cents less than the national average of $3.34.
Drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.27. Drivers in Beaumont are paying the least statewide at $3.09.
Houston drivers are paying an average of $3.18. Last week the average was $3.21.
Lower crude oil prices have been the primary reason for the steady decline in retail gasoline prices that started at the beginning of April.
"In Texas, drivers are now paying an average of $44 to fill up a typical 14-gallon size tank," said AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe.
