HOUSTON - Hotmail will soon be history after getting the cold shoulder from Microsoft.
To make Hotmail seem a little less outdated, Microsoft is slapping a new name on it, calling it Outlook. Outlook is already a name familiar in the workplace.
Many corporations use the email application at the office.
The new at-home Outlook integrates social network links like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Skype, and Google Plus.
Microsoft hopes the new name and new look will help them recapture some of the email growth they've lost to its rival, Google's Gmail.
Hotmail was launched in 1996 and hasn't had an update for eight years.
Users will be prompted to make the switch to Outlook in the coming months.
