Restaurant Report Card: Lots of slime in the ice machine

HOUSTON – Just in time for the weekend, this week's Restaurant Report Card begins at Just Dinner on Dunlavy. Health inspectors found lasagna, pork bellies and crab cakes being stored at dangerous temperatures. They tossed 17 pounds of the food.

At Benihana of Tokyo, located at 9707 Westheimer, health officials found slime in the ice machine. The ice inside was thrown out and the machine thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Channel 2 Investigator Bill Spencer went to Brooklyn Athletic Club on Richmond in Midtown after inspectors condemned 82 pounds of food found unsafe for human consumption.

The manager on duty said the problem has been fixed and he led KPRC 2 to a walk-in refrigeration truck located across the street, where we saw the refrigeration in working order.

Inspectors found more dangerous temperatures at the Local Pour on West Gray. They noted beef, shrimp, chicken and cooked pasta all stored well above the 41 degree maximum. Inspectors also condemned 1,500 pounds of ice contaminated with black biofilm.

And at the Pine Forest Garden on Bellaire, health officials observed an employee using his bare hands while working with vegetables and tofu. That is a violation.

This week, the hardworking employees at Cafe Express at 1111 Eldridge Parkway get an A+ for a perfect, spotless inspection.
