The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommendations about lawn mower safety.  The group said children younger than 16 should not be allowed to use riding lawn mowers.  The group said children younger than 12 should not use push mowers.

If you have hills or slopes on your property, the Academy advised you mow them up and down, not across.  That will help keep your mower from rolling over.
