Freebies for Memorial Day weekend

HOUSTON – It's a holiday weekend; so you probably have a little more free time. We've got a few "free" ways to fill it up.

Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with fireworks, live music and children's entertainment at Waterway Square in The Woodlands Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is free and the fireworks begin at 8:55 p.m.

Or head south to East Beach on Galveston Island to celebrate its reopening. See the new pavilion, boardwalk and entertainment stage. It's all free and it starts at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Are you looking to recycle an old computer or electronics? Take them to Discovery Green from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday. That's where Compucycle will take them off your hands for free.

And if you've got a science kid, take them to the downtown Central Library for some free hands-on science experiments Saturday at 3 p.m.

On Monday, celebrate Memorial Day at Harris County's War Memorial Bear Creek Park from 11 to 7 p.m. They'll have a fireworks show, gun salute, food and live entertainment for free. The park is at 3535 War Memorial Drive.
