Freebie Friday: Warm weather fun

HOUSTON – Last weekend's big freeze kept a lot of families indoors, but you can make up for it this weekend with new experiences that won't cost you a dime.

If you haven't seen the Midtown Arts and Theater Center, Match for short, this Sunday is a good time to drop in. it's the second annual free family fun day with a magic show, character visits by Main Street Theater, an indoor bounce house and more fun. It's all happening from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 3400 Main Street.

Bring a canned food item to the Idea Lab in the Heights or the Energy Corridor Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and get into the Idea Lab Maker Faire for free. Kids can fly drones, design and create 3D Pokemon and build and battle bots. Call ahead to reserve your spot.

The Houston Fire Museum is free every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Kids can climb on a mock fire truck with working lights and learn about the history of the Houston Fire Department.

Get into the Super Bowl spirit by heading to Alief Community Park Saturday for the next Touchdown Tour. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. you can play games and meet Texans mascot Toro and the cheerleaders.

Make sure you plan ahead for Sunday trips. A lot of roads around Houston will be closed for the Chevron Houston Marathon.
