Enjoy parades, national parks for FREE

HOUSTON – Are you looking for something to do this extended holiday weekend – something that doesn't cost a dime? We've got some ideas for you!

There are four different Martin Luther King Jr. parades.

On Saturday, two youth parades will wind through downtown. The Black Heritage Society's MLK Children's March will start at 10 am at Minute Maid Park. The seventh annual MLK youth parade will start at noon in Midtown at San Jacinto Street and Elgin Street.

There will be two more parades on Monday.

The 19th annual MLK Grande Parade will start at 10 a.m. in Midtown at San Jacinto Street and Elgin Street.

The 35th annual Original MLK Jr. Birthday Parade will start Monday at 10 a.m. at Minute Maid Park followed by a community festival at Discovery Green.

There is scheduled to be a giant screen for families to watch the Presidential Inauguration ceremonies on the lawn.

On Monday, there is also free entrance to all 398 national parks across the country in honor of MLK Day.

At Bayou Bend on Memorial Drive on Sunday, there will be free family fun day. There will be crafts and performances spotlighting African American Heritage.

In the Woodlands, 121,000 tree seedlings will be given away at Arbor Day at Rob Fleming Park in the Woodlands' Village of Creekside Park.
