Don't throw that away

Are you wasting money?

Those everyday household items that we tend to toss in the garbage, like soap slivers and old spices, could actually be put to good use.

What do you do with that last piece of soap that you can't really do much with?

Frugal folks save the soap slivers and then melt them together in the microwave to form a new bar of soap. If you use a coffee cup as a mold, you can get a nice round bar of soap.

You can also use extra ice cube trays to store homemade baby food, freeze leftover broth or to organize your jewelry collection.

Newspaper sleeves can be used as disposable work gloves or pooper scooper bags.

You can simmer a pot of old spices that have been in your kitchen cabinet for years and use them to freshen up your house or add a little fragrance to your homemade cleaners.

Mesh produce bags that hold oranges, onions and potatoes can be used as pot scrubbers when you're washing dishes.

We asked viewers on Facebook for ways they stretch out products or items to make them last longer. Here are some of their ideas...

Is this wise or just cheap?
