As Seen on TV Tuesday: Bowl Brite

HOUSTON – Seat up or down?  Do you have this dilemma in your home? Do the men put the toilet seat back down after they've done their business? If you answered no, you may need the latest As Seen on TV Product called Bowl Brite. It's basically a smart night light that attempts to solve the age-old bathroom battle between men and women: Should men return the seat to the down position before they leave the restroom?

"It's not intentional sometimes," explained Joseph McGarth, who says he tries to remember to put the seat back down. When men don't, it can be problematic for women in the house.

"The worst thing, of course, is when you sit down thinking the seat's down and you fall into the toilet," said Alice Hill.

But the makers of Bowl Brite claim you'll never fall in again. The device is a light with a motion sensor that turns on when you walk into the bathroom.

"Red if he left the seat up; and green if down so you know if it's safe to go," claims the Bowl Brite commercial (hyperlink to:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c06W6iaQRG4).

"Would you use something like that?" consumer expert Amy Davis asked Hill.
"It's possible," she answered. "I'd have to test it out, but it's possible."

No worries. We tested it for you. The setup was simple. Just install 2 AA batteries. The light sticks to the underside of your toilet lid with two adhesive squares included in the package. When Davis turned the lights out, Bowl Brite cast a green glow when the toilet seat was down. When she lifted it up, the light turned red.

People we spoke with say they think the product would be useful; but others say Bowl Brite doesn't solve the real problem; and that is teaching males to lower the seat.
