Apple reportedly in talks to buy Jay Z's Tidal

Apple could be ready to hit a new note in its quest for music streaming domination.

According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter claim the tech giant is in talks to buy Jay Z’s Tidal service. The deal would help Apple shore up subscribers and catch up to Spotify, which leads the market.

Jay Z acquired Tidal in March 2015 for $56 million, when it was mostly a niche for high-fidelity audio fans. With the rap mogul at the helm, the service has released a string of exclusives from stars like Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyoncé.

Tidal is also the only major service that offers music from legendary artists like Prince and Neil Young.
