Thousands attend Holiday parade

HOUSTON – Hundreds of thousands of spectators lined downtown Houston streets Thursday morning for a holiday parade.

The 63rd annual Holiday Parade, presented by HEB, started on Texas Avenue at Crawford at 9 a.m. It had a global theme of of "Celebrate! Holidays Around the World."

Floats wandered down a new route on Congress and San Jacinto before ending on Walker at Caroline.

Disney star Kenton Duty performed at the parade. He is known for his role on the Disney series, Shake It Up. Duty was born in Plano, Texas.

And Santa was the final featured guest at the end of the parade to help usher in the Christmas season.

The following downtown streets were closed for the route.

  • Crawford between Texas and Congress beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m.
  • Hamilton, Chartres, St. Emanuel between Texas and Congress beginning Thursday at 7 a.m.
  • Texas between Hamilton and Crawford Wednesday at 7 p.m.
  • Texas between Bastrop and Hamilton Thursday at 7 a.m.
