Teacher charged with having inappropriate relationship with student

James Elementary School Teacher Tina Quiser arrested

COLDSPRING, Texas – The Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District Police Department arrested a teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old high school student.

Police on Wednesday charged Tina Quiser, a teacher at James Elementary School, with improper relationship between an educator and a student.

"I think there was some manipulation, absolutely," said a woman claiming to be the teenager's mother. Local 2 chose not release her name to protect the identity of the alleged victim.

The woman said her son graduated from Coldspring-Oakhurst High School before the allegations were made. She said her son met Quiser at a neighborhood grocery store where they both worked.

"It had nothing to do with school and the only reason school officials had to get involved was because he was a student and she is a teacher," said the woman.

Even though the alleged relationship occurred off school grounds, the woman said it was still inappropriate.

"I don't think an 18-year-old kid, whether he's in school or out of school, really has the understanding to get the ramifications of the whole situation," said the woman. "I think it was just something he just got caught up in that an 18 year old doesn't understand how inappropriate things might be."

Quiser has been on paid administrative leave since March when the allegations were made, district officials said.
