Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo sets new attendance record

HOUSTON – The numbers are in and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has broken records— attendance records that is.

The organization tweeted that upon final count Monday, RodeoHouston brought in 2.6 million fans during its March 7-26 run.

The World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest also broke records before the rodeo began. The contest set an opening-day record with 47,883 in attendance on March 2.

Records were broken on March 18, as well, with a single-day attendance of 185,667.

More than 1.3 million people paid for tickets to the rodeo and the concerts that followed. Banda El Recodo and Siggno begame the top paid rodeo an concert attendance record with 75,557.

More than $2 million were doled out to contestants of the rodeo. 

The livestock show drew 32,793 entries. Several of the winners set world records, as well.

More than $14.2 million in scholarships will also be awarded this summer.

They say things are bigger in Texas, and that includes the annual rodeo.
