HOUSTON -

This week, KPRC is launching a special project by teaming up with Houston’s Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a deserving family.

The organization has already made a difference for hundreds of families, and starting Tuesday, Local 2 will start the process of giving a local mom and her kids a place they can be proud to call home.

“The mission for Houston Habitat for Humanity is to build affordable homes for hardworking Houstonians," said Denise Bates with Habitat for Humanity

Kimberly Hudson and her four children will go through financial training, spend a minimum of 300 hours working alongside habitat volunteers, and then get a no-interest loan for the home which they are required to pay in full.

Last year, Local 2 was there when 11 local families got the keys to their homes.

Hudson and her family are eagerly awaiting the day when they get to walk through their front door for the first time.

“Just knowing that I will get a set of keys to my own home, I’m ecstatic, I’m excited, I’m ready,” said Hudson. “I'm so ready."

KPRC’s Habitat Home construction for the Hudson family starts at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
