HPD helps Houston couple rebuild home

Home more than 68 years old

HOUSTON – Houston police officers are going well beyond the call of regular duty.

A team of officers and volunteers with "Rebuilding Together Houston" will be in southeast Houston the entire week helping an elderly couple renovate and make repairs to their home.

For the past 25 years, the nonprofit organization has been providing home repair services for low-income, elderly and/or disabled Houston homeowners.

Douglas Harrison, Jr. and his wife are the owners of a home built back in 1945. After 68 years of wear and tear, it was time to make some serious repairs.

The improvements include a new wheelchair ramp and replacement of all siding, doors and windows on the home. In addition, the home will receive new paint and landscaping. Crews will also clear and mow several weeded and vacant lots in the neighborhood.

The Harrisons said they are extremely grateful.
