HOUSTON - The real estate market is booming right now in the greater Houston area. The average price for a home is just under $200,000. So how far will $200,000 really take you these days?
You can still find a suburban lakeside community, a high rise inside the loop, or even brand new construction for about $200,000.
Misty Hurst and her family moved into a new community in Porter about five years ago.
"We like the pool and we love the splash pad," Hurst said. "My husband loves to play golf and we really like the location."
The neighborhood is called Auburn Trails, and it's just off Highway 59.
For $192,000 you can get a brand new 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath home.
"The kitchen is very large so it definitely makes for a great cook, great kitchen space," said Jill Tezsla, a sales associate for Legend Homes. "Tall ceilings, large master suite, and everything is very open."
From living room to dining room, the home is an open floor plan from front to back. The hidden gems are a fireplace and an extra workspace in the garage.
Heading south down 288 into Pearland, Robert Howelton is now selling his home. He moved to the Silverlake neighborhood with his family in 1996.
"We had a small, dingy boat that you could actually put on the lake and go fishing out there," said Howelton. Now he's downsizing.
For $202,000 you can get his more than 2,400-square-foot, four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath house in a lakeside and golf course community. Sam Ferreri, with REMAX Top Realty, is his realtor.

A 2,366-square-foot high rise condo is selling for $199,500.
"It's in the heart of the Museum District, near the light rail line, adjacent to Hermann Park," said Shirley Sanders, a Coldwell Banker broker associate.
It's two units put together.
"So there's three bedrooms plus a den, and three bathrooms, said Sanders. She added, "The master bedroom has it's own bathroom, and a big picture window overlooking the skyline... the formal living room has enough room for a grand piano."
There's also a galley kitchen with granite counter tops.
