HOUSTON – Women, become prime targets during the summer months as thieves take advantage of the normal summertime distractions. Rania Makarious, executive director of Crime Stoppers of Houston says her organization along with HPD and the Greater Houston Loss Prevention Alliance are trying to get an important message across.
"We want women to know there are people on the streets, in parking lots, at Gas stations that are targeting you," she said.
Mankarious joins Khambrel with great information about what women can do to help stay safe. The almost $9 billion handbag industry is driving some of the thefts but what's inside those bags are lures as well.
Also this summer, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the deadliest time of year for teenagers. Sue McFadden from State Farm Insurance says with kids out for summer, making more trips, carrying friends in their cars and creating distractions, the number of car crashes takes a toll on industry costs and on lives.
Car Crashes are the number one cause of death for teens in the U.S. with those numbers spiking during the summer. Advice on what you can do to better protect your teens during the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer.
Houston City Council Member Michael Kubosh (At Large Position 3) was one of three council members to vote against the recently passed $5.2 billion City of Houston budget. He is not shy about why, and what he says is the right way to go.
"The city of Houston is balancing its books by deferring the payments on pension plans and other debt obligations that we owe." he said. "It's just not how you do business when you're a business man, nor is it if you have a family. You don't pay your house note with your credit card."
