Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo kicks off Friday

Fair runs until Oct. 2

ROSENBERG, Texas – Funnel cake, Ferris wheels and mutton bustin’ will take center stage Friday as the 80th annual Fort Bend County fair begins.

The fair started in 1933 and took place on land now occupied by a grocery store. In 1974, the event moved to its current location in south Rosenberg on Highway 36.

The event kicked off with a parade at 9 a.m. Friday from the Historic Court House in Richmond, west on Highway 90 and ending on Jennetta Street in Rosenberg. There were nearly 200 entries in this year’s parade.

Gates at the fairgrounds open at 10 a.m. Friday and close at midnight. Children can get in for free until 6 p.m. It is also Armed Forced Appreciation Day at the fair.

Here is the remainder of the gate schedule:

  • Sept. 24: 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday
  • Sept. 25: Noon to midnight
  • Sept. 26-28: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Sept. 29-30: 5 p.m. to midnight
  • Oct. 1: 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday
  • Oct. 2: Noon to 8 p.m.

In addition to the midway, food and contests, fairgoers are treated to concerts, a rodeo, dances and exhibits.
