Eyes on Houston: The Wizard of Oz comes to Houston Hobby Center

HOUSTON – It took a tornado to transport Dorothy and Toto to Oz.

To bring Oz to Houston requires a convoy of big rigs and more than 100 people to assemble it in the Hobby Center.

Before the curtain rises on the witches and wizard of the emerald city, we're giving you a backstage look

This is where the magic begins for Wicked, the musical: a touring production of the Broadway play — $13 million of set pieces and equipment that makes this magical world come to life — starting with the dragon that hovers above the stage, and Steve Quinn is in charge of it all.

Costumes alone are valued at $2 million, and the songs and music are priceless.

It is the story of Glinda, the good witch, and Elphaba, the wicked witch of the west.

Wicked has mesmerized audiences for more than a decade.

You can experience it all: the same acclaimed songs, witches, flying monkeys and new special effects.  And you don't need to be carried away to Oz to see it.

Wicked will have eight performances a week at the Hobby Center until Aug. 11.
