HOUSTON – Parts of Allen Parkway will remain closed near downtown Houston through Sunday after tens of thousands watched fireworks Thursday night. Crews were busy cleaning up after the Freedom over Texas fireworks display finished.
Organizers estimated more than 55,000 people bought tickets and came to the festival along Allen Parkway and Eleanor Tinsley Park. They estimate more than 100,000 people watched the fireworks from the area surrounding Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway.
Rain fell briefly Thursday night and left some people covering up while they waited for the fireworks.
The fireworks were not the only attraction. Grammy award winners Martina McBride and Sheryl Crow were the big names at the festival.
