Local 2's parking lot turned into a construction build site Tuesday as our station partnered with Houston's Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a local mom and her children.
Starting at 6 a.m., volunteers and Local 2 staff started building the frame of the house.
The frame was then be moved to Harrell Park in northeast Houston, the newest Habitat neighborhood, where the building will continue.
Kimberly Hudson and her four children, Rickey, Roy, Dontrell and Dynasty, are eagerly awaiting their move in day.
"I would like to say thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart," said Hudson. "They really made a dream come true for me. Thank you to Habitat for selecting me and giving me this opportunity. Thank you."
Hudson had to apply to become a Habitat family.
She now will go through financial training, maintenance training, and commit to doing 300 hours of work with Habitat for Humanity, starting with building her own home.
