Average Insurance Varies From $5,900 To $900

Where you live can make a $5,000 a year difference in how much you pay for auto insurance, according to a study by Runzheimer International.

The company found that the average annual premium in Detroit is $5,900, but those in Roanoke, Va., pay $900.

Averages were based on both male and female drivers over a minimum age with clean driving records and comprehensive, collision, bodily injury, property damage, and uninsured motorist coverage.

Pete Kuhnmuench, of the Insurance Institute of Michigan, said Detroit drivers pay so much because the state requires a high level of coverage.
