Experts Pick 10 Cool Cars Under $18,000

POSTED: Thursday, April 21, 2005

Everybody wants a nice car with a lot of features. But many people can't afford it.

For those folks, the editors of Kelley Blue Book, which helps determine prices for new and used cars, have developed a list of 10 very cool models that sell for less than $18,000.
  SURVEY
Of the following, which vehicle do you think is the coolest?

Editorial Director Jack Nerad said there is a variety of exciting, fun vehicles.

The group chose $18,000 as a cutoff because that would usually give buyers an average monthly payment of $300 to $350 over a 5-year loan.

Fuel economy wasn't part of choosing the cars, but KBB said they all provide good mileage.

The cars were chosen based on price, design, style and performance.

The list:
  • Toyota Tacoma PreRunner
  • Scion xB
  • Ford Focus ZX3 SES
  • Kia Spectra hatchback
  • Chevrolet Cobalt LS coupe
  • Hyundai Tiburon
  • Mazda 3 S hatchback
  • Scion tC
  • Mini Cooper
  • Honda Element
