East Loop Reopens After Big Rig Fire
Driver Receives Minor Burns

HOUSTON -- An 18-wheeler crashed and caught fire on the East Loop near Manchester in southeast Houston Monday afternoon, shutting down the freeway for hours.
Officials told Local 2 that the driver was coming around a curve from the South Loop, eastbound, at about 12:40 p.m., lost control of his big rig and hit a pillar below Highway 225. The cab of the rig then burst into flames. The driver was pulled out of the cab with his clothes on fire, but authorities said he only suffered minor burns.Another driver was also involved in the accident and suffered minor injuries.All lanes, both directions, of the East Loop were closed for several hours.The northbound lanes of the East Loop were reopened by 3:45 p.m.The southbound lanes were reopened shortly after 5 p.m. Road Condition Information:
