HCTRA Terminates Company's Construction Contract
Representative: Jones Contractors Did Not Walk Off Project
Work on the $50 million project was put on hold after the Harris County Toll Road Authority said Jones Contractors walked off the job a month ago during billing disputes. The construction company said it is owed nearly $2 million for work already completed, but toll road officials say the company owes them $8 million worth of damages from delays."We have not walked off this project -- our iron, our equipment, our excavators, our cranes are still in place and ready to go back. Jones would like to finish this project, but we must reach some resolution," Jones Contractors representative Murphy Foster said.Toll road representatives said the company was six months behind its scheduled completion date on the section of road between Rogerdale and Ranchester, which includes the Beltway 8 interchange.County officials terminated the company's responsibility and are currently looking for a new contractor.Copyright 2004 by Click2Houston.com.
