HOUSTON -- After several weeks of seeing prices at the pump go down, they're starting to head back up, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas went up to $1.60 Thursday, 5 cents higher than Wednesday's average and 9 cents higher than Tuesday's average. AAA Texas officials said prices have been increasing for more than a week.
The nationwide average is $1.76. In Alaska, drivers are paying an average of $2.53.
Drivers said they aren't excited to pay more, but there's not much they can do.
"If you want to ride, you're have to pay the gas prices," Curtis Gibson said. "What are we to do about it?"
Gas prices are about half of what they were a year ago – $2.98 per gallon.
Experts attribute the increase to the turmoil in Gaza and Russia's threats to cut off natural gas supplies to European customers, which could force them to switch to oil.
