HOUSTON -- Prices at the pump reached yet another record high as a gallon of regular gas in Houston costs 13 cents more than it did last week.
The weekly AAA Texas gas price survey released Friday found regular self-serve is averaging $3.68 per gallon in the survey's 11 cities, up nearly 15 cents from last week's record high. Nationally, the average price rose 13 cents to a new record of $3.78 per gallon.
Auto club spokeswoman Rose Rougeau predicted high fuel prices and tough economic times generally will keep some Americans at home come Memorial Day. She said the number of people expected to be traveling on and around the Memorial Day holiday later this month is expected to drop by about a percentage point from last year.
The most expensive gasoline in Texas was found in Amarillo, where the average spiked 13 cents from last week to $3.71 per gallon. The cheapest gas was in El Paso, where prices soared 14 cents to $3.63 per gallon.
