Sugar Land Prepares For Red-Light Cameras

SUGAR LAND, Texas -- Drivers in Sugar Land are about to be caught on camera when they run red lights, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.Red-light cameras will be running at three busy intersections -- Highway 59 at Highway 6, Highway 6 at Lexington Boulevard and Highway 59 at Williams Trace Boulevard.The Sugar Land police chief said it's all in the name of safety.
"We want to reduce accidents at intersections," Steve Griffith said.He also said he hopes the cameras will improve traffic flow.Beginning on Nov. 5, the cameras will begin capturing images.For the first 30 days, drivers will get warnings in the mail.After that, each violation means a $75 fine.The police chief said no one should be surprised at the cameras."We're putting up two sets of warning signs," Griffith said.More Information:
