HOUSTON -- A crack in the Westpark Tollway does not pose a safety threat, according to road experts on Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Two cracks along the center median of the 4-year-old toll way near Synott Road were discovered in May.
Some drivers were concerned about the cracks after the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.
The head of county infrastructure department, Art Storey, assured Harris County commissioners that there is no danger.
The cracks are located on a section of road that sits on solid ground.
Storey said it's not uncommon for cracks to appear in concrete roadways.
"This is much ado about a routine maintenance item that is not even in the travel lane and constitutes no danger to the public. This is what we do -- monitor the condition of our infrastructure and fix it when it needs it," Storey said.
Commissioners approved paying a consulting firm almost $55,000 to determine what caused the cracks, how deep they are and how best to repair them.
