POSTED: Tuesday, March 17, 2009
In the early 1980s, brainiacs everywhere finally got their due with the release of "Revenge of the Nerds," a raucous campus comedy that made it cool to wear horn-rimmed classes held together by tape.Released on July 20, 1984, "Revenge of the Nerds" starred Robert Carradine and Anthony Edwards as Lewis Skolnick and Gilbert Lowe, respectively, a pair of super intelligent yet socially awkward buddies who go off to Adams College together. But thanks to the irresponsible partying by Adams' football jocks, Lewis and Gilbert, along with a slew of other freshmen, are cast out of their dorm rooms.Branded "nerds," Lewis and Gilbert band together with several other misfits, including Dudley "Booger" Dawson (Curtis Armstrong), Arnold Poindexter (Timothy Busfield) and Lamar Latrelle (Larry B. Scott) to form their own fraternity. And of course, the thing about nerds is that they're really smart, which helps them get revenge on the jocks, including Stan Gable (Ted McGinley) and Fred "The Ogre" Palowakski (Donald Gibbs), and cheerleader captain Betty Childs (Julia Montgomery). In addition to the core cast, "Revenge of the Nerds" featured several notable actors early in their careers, including John Goodman as Coach Harris, the fiery head the Adams football team, and James Cromwell as Lewis' father. Former NFL star Bernie Casey also starred as the head of a fraternal organization -- Lambda Lambda Lambda -- which takes the nerds in.Several "Revenge of the Nerds" stars went on to star in one or more of the film's three sequels and continued on with careers in film and/or television. So, nearly 25 years after the nerds got their "Revenge," what are the stars up to today? Click into our slideshow to find out.
